Our products are characterised by their high quality, which we guarantee with our production supported by ISO standards.
BT-Watzke, at that time as one of the first capsule factories, has been certified according to ISO 9001 since 1995, currently in the version EN ISO 9001:2008. Since then, certifications of environmental standards (TÜV certificate EN ISO 14001:2015) and in the area of food safety (TÜV certificate EN ISO 22000:2015) have followed.
The best choice depends on the type of wine and the desired aging period. Aluminum screw caps, such as the vinotwist BVS 30×60, are now the preferred alternative to natural cork:
- No cork taint (TCA-free) – maximum quality assurance for winemakers and bottlers
- Controllable shelf life – oxygen ingress can be precisely regulated by selecting the gasket material (Saranex, Tin/Saran, etc.)
- BVS 30×60 (vinotwist®) is a standard size suitable for bottles with a neck conforming to DIN EN 16293 – compatible with all common bottling lines
- Recyclable
Depending on the product, bottle shape, and product positioning, various solutions are used:
- Screw cap (vinotwist®) with EPE liner – leak-proof, practical, ideal for mass production and the mid-price segment
- Cork with tin cap – classic and high-quality, standard for premium and luxury spirits (whiskey, cognac, gin)
- Polylaminate capsules – a versatile, customizable composite material made of aluminum and PE, suitable for bottles with corks
- PET/PVC shrink capsules – cost-effective, versatile, widely used in the entry-level and mid-range segments and for tamper-evidence protection on specially shaped corks
The choice depends on the price segment, bottle shape, and brand positioning. Corks with tin capsules convey the strongest quality signal at the point of sale.
For carbonated wines and beverages (such as sparkling wine, Prosecco, and semi-sparkling wine), pressure resistance is the key selection criterion.
The vinotwist aluminum screw cap offers a choice of two pressure-resistant sealing discs:
- Saranex-High – reliably pressure-tight up to 4 bar, proven for semi-sparkling wines and lightly carbonated wines
- Tin-Saran High – maximum pressure resistance up to 6 bar, ideal for Prosecco or other beverages with higher CO₂ content
For premium wines and spirits, the tin capsule is the top choice – it is the strongest indicator of quality at the point of sale and reinforces the brand’s positioning:
- High-quality material feel – soft, malleable, with a refined look and feel
- Customizable design – embossable, printable, available in nearly any color (matte, glossy)
- Versatile application – for wine (still wine, sparkling wine) and spirits (whiskey, cognac, gin, grappa)
- Combination with a T-bar cork – a classic solution for premium spirits
In general, both screw caps as well as als auch capsules are suitable for automatic bottling:
- vinotwist® 30×60 – optimized for fully automatic bottling lines, high machine compatibility, precise torque control
- All standard capsules (tin, poly-laminate, PET/PVC, aluminum) can be processed using automatic capping machines
- It is important to use the correct cap size and ensure the crimping head is properly adjusted, or to set the correct shrink temperature and shrink duration, to ensure smooth processing with optimal crimping or shrink results
All products comply with key international standards for Lefood safety, Qquality and environmental management:
- EN ISO 22000:2018 – Food Safety Management System, the basis for the safe use of all closures and capsules in direct contact with food
- EN ISO 9001:2015 – Quality management system, guarantees consistently high product quality and process reliability
- EN ISO 14001:2015 – Environmental management system, proof of sustainable and resource-efficient production
Yes, BT-Watzke products are suitable for bottling organic wine and meet the key requirements of organic wineries:
- PVC- and chlorine-free sealing discs –no problematic plasticizers or chlorine compounds in food contact
- Recyclability – aluminum screw caps and capsules are fully recyclable
- Sustainable production – certified according to EN ISO 14001:2015 (Environmental Management System)
Quality assurance covers all product-related testing areas – from dimensional accuracy to food safety:
- Dimensional accuracy & tolerances – precise inspection of all dimensions to ensure flawless processing on the bottling line
- Mechanical function tests – testing of torque and closure strength under real-world conditions
- Visual & aesthetic inspection – inspection of surface, printing, embossing, and colour for consistent brand quality
Proper storage ensures product quality until filling:
- Dry, sealed, and dust-free – keep the original packaging sealed until use
- Temperature: 10–35 °C – avoid frost and direct heat sources
- Humidity: 30–80% relative humidity – prevent condensation and corrosion
1. Identify the cause of the defect:
- Closure/capsule – dimensional deviations, seal ring defects, damage during transport
- Capping head – torque check, inspection of bottling line equipment
- Bottle – neck geometry, tolerance deviations from the glass supplier
2. Document the defect:
- Do not dispose the affected units – retain defective goods or samples
- Document the batch, filling date, system data, and details with photos
Yes – BT-Watzke can handle customization even for small quantities. The capsule is the bottle’s calling card and the first point of contact with the consumer – the range of design options is correspondingly wide:
- Color & finish – matte, glossy
- Printing & embossing – logo, vintage, colour options, QR code
- Material & shape – tin, polylaminate, aluminum, PET/PVC, paper-aluminum – adapted to the bottle and market positioning
- Special options – perforations, tear strips, personalized textures, UV text or markings
The eye drinks too – a well-thought-out cap design strengthens brand identity and makes the product stand out on the shelf.
Vector data is required for optimal print and embossing quality:
- Preferred formats: AI (Adobe Illustrator), EPS, PDF (vector-based)
- Why vector? Vector graphics are losslessly scalable—essential for embossing and fine printing on capsules
- Pixel/raster data (JPG, PNG) is not directly suitable or must be reworked
Recommendation: Coordinate print data with the BT-Watzke team early on - this helps avoid rounds of corrections and delays in the production process.
